Smith & Company, was founded in 1968 and has a staff of over 42 people including Professional Engineers, Registered Geologists, Professional Land Surveyors, and other scientific and technical professionals. The company is based in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

Our experience in the design and inspection of public works projects includes airports, streets and roads, drainage improvements, bridges, water distribution and treatment systems, wastewater collection and treatment systems, solid waste management facilities, and industrial parks.

The company maintains two subsurface exploration rigs which are equipped for soil and rock drilling. With our material testing laboratory and other services, Smith&Co. is capable of providing complete civil engineering services with a minimum of outside technical support.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) and robotic electronic total stations we use represent the current industry standard in measurement techniques.  Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD), allows us to prepare drawings in a variety of digital formats and can be furnished in print, on CD, or transmitted via the internet.

Smith&Co. is also an experienced firm in providing comprehensive environmental solutions.  Some projects are initiated by the discovery of a petroleum release.  We assist clients in complying with government agencies by conducting environmental site characterizations, risk assessments, and corrective action.  We also assist property owners and lenders with property transactions by conducting Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments.  Further, we can design improvements or evaluate existing bulk petroleum facilities to comply with regulatory agencies (including the preparation of Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans).
